Ellyse Perry Proves Yet Again Why She’s A One Of A Kind Talent!

Ellyse Perry

Australia have produced several legendary names in the Women’s ebb of their game and Ellyse Perry is just one of them. But what ought to be noted is that there never was and most certainly there will never be another like her.

A staple presence in the Australian sporting landscape, Ellyse Perry has inspired envy and been a subject of cricketing awe for a huge amount of time.

That she was a well established star long before famous names in the men’s game such as Rishabh Pant, Shai Hope, Sunil Narine, Babar Azam and even Virat Kohli, to quote a few, even happened in Cricket ought to be considered as just one of the standard features of a career shaped by longevity.

But then, what makes Ellyse Perry amazing and perhaps in a league of her own isn’t only the sheer amount of time she’s spent on the cricket field and by the way, she’s been around for a decade and a half.

What truly makes her presence rather indispensable in the women’s sport is that she’s been at her A-game for all these years, despite experiencing countless physical anomalies and distresses that would likely have broken the confidence of any other person in Cricket less enduring.

As a matter of fact, just hours ago, Ellyse Perry made revered headlines once again for shining bright for the famous Australian women’s cricket team and that too, in the pinnacle of the contest in the game: the Women’s Ashes.

Ellyse Perry batted beautifully and spent quite some time at the wicket combining focus with flair to strike a magnificent 99 in the end.

That she fell short of what would have been a deserving century by just a dainty margin of a run was saddening. But what wasn’t was that, true to her persona and recurring nature of standing tall amid several wickets falling, Ellyse Perry was able to conjure a watchful and exciting 99 on her own.

As the Australian Women’s team, one led by Alyssa Healy in the absence of the great Meg Lanning, saw both openers- Mooney and Phoebe- out with the score well under hundred, it was upto Perry, the ebullient and courageous all rounder to get on with the job.

And boy, didn’t the 33-year-old respond greatly to the pressure?

99 of Australia’s developing 309 runs posted on the board until the 80th over on Day 1 at Nottingham against England came through Perry’s bat.

This was beyond the realm of special and ought to be celebrated with much vigor. And that the experienced force of Australian cricket was responsible for a third of her team’s total is not the only reason.

The very fact that Perry had last played a Test match during January of 2022 and was immediately able to return among the vital runs calls for appreciating the legend that she is.

While she walked off upset at having missed out on a hundred, there was a sign of relief on Perry’s face that she had perhaps got some valuable runs for a team that still looks up to her to find a way amid grimace.

What’s exciting is that the ongoing Test match may just go any team’s way. But what perhaps isn’t is that it is just a one-off game.
